ABout stay at home sister♡
Three years ago, I was granted custody of my 14 year old sister and made the commitment to be her foster parent.
Raising a teenage girl who borrows my clothes without asking and gives me attitude for simply existing had me questioning my parenting abilities.
Nonetheless, parenting has been one of the most rewarding experiences in life but also one of the toughest.
And quickly I realized just how unique my situation really is. Technically, I am not my sisters mom but I am not just her sister either.
I am her newfound responsible parent. This realization compelled me to create stay at home sister.
Stay at home sister is all about the hardships, sacrifices and responsibility that presents itself in parenting no matter who you are. My transition from sister to legal guardian confirmed that parenting is not a one size fits all and children do not come with manuals but they do come with an abundance of love and many valuable lessons.
One important lesson I have learned is you absolutely cannot be there for your children if you can't even be there for yourself.
And that starts with prioritizing your mental health.
My goal at stay at home sister is to provide a family-oriented virtual community with plentiful support where individuals can find guidance, empathy and encouragement on their journey. Join my newsletter where you can find value in the importance of showing up for yourself, inspirational quotes, tips on maintaining great mental health, and tips on parenting a teen.
Ps. you can save the parenting tips for later if you do not have kiddos.
I am so glad you’re here. ♡
